Why does Pepper always fire Spread Ammo?
Is this guide based on your own testing?
Pepper is the outlier in the launch tier data. The Water Heavy Bowgun disruptor is TopUpLive’s SSS and mobi.gg’s C, a nine-grade spread that no other adventurer comes close to matching. The six-list average is 61.1, which is A, but the average is the least interesting number on this page. The disagreement is the point.
What is Pepper in Monster Hunter Outlanders?
Pepper is an SSR Water Disruptor adventurer who uses a Heavy Bowgun. Game8 and gacha.gg agree on the identity and on the ability that defines the kit: Aerial Fighter, which makes Pepper fire Spread Ammo regardless of the loaded ammo, with greater range and a tighter spread.
That one ability explains most of the disagreement. A Heavy Bowgun user who is always airborne is either controlling the fight from above or taking hits in a position where dodging is harder. Whether that is an S-tier strength or a C-tier liability is a judgment about play, and the six lists make different judgments.
How do the six published lists grade Pepper?
Every grade below is rendered from the same tier data module that powers the adventurer tier list, including Game8’s separate main-team and squadmate columns.
| Source | Grade | Published / updated |
|---|---|---|
| Game8 (main team, squad S) | A | Updated 2026-11-03 |
| TopUpLive | SSS | Published 2026-11-03 |
| LDShop | A | Published 2026-10-29; updated 2026-11-03 |
| gacha.gg | S | Updated 2026-10-29 |
| PlayerAuctions | A | Published 2026-10-30 |
| mobi.gg | C | Published 2026-10-28 |
Six-list consensus: 61.1 out of 100, bucket A, collected 2026-11-04.
Name the spread rather than smoothing it: TopUpLive is at SSS on a five-tier scale, gacha.gg at S, three lists at A, and mobi.gg at C. The high grades reward aerial control and paralysis; the low grade reflects the risk of a kit that spends time in the air. No list publishes its weighting, so the page cannot tell you which judgment is correct. It can tell you that the sample is genuinely split and that the 61.1 average is a compromise, not a verdict.
How does the Concentration loop work?
Game8 and gacha.gg list the same pieces. The loop below is our plain-language ordering of what those pages describe.
- Build Concentration with the third shot in a burst. The third shot is listed as a stack source.
- Add stacks from Pressurized Blast. The same skill also appears in the damage rotation.
- Add a stack by parrying an Aerial Blast. This is the defensive route.
- Add a stack from the Perfect-Evade high-recoil shot. A successful evade converts into offense.
- Spend a stack with Bouncy Dash. The dash consumes one stack and reloads, which restarts the burst.
- Apply control with Fluffy, Attack! The skill is listed with paralysis and Suppression.
The trade-off is explicit. Devastating Pressure increases damage taken while airborne by 20% for 15 seconds, once every 40 seconds. That is the cost of the aerial playstyle, and it is the most likely reason a list would rate Pepper below A. No source publishes how much damage the average monster deals in that window, so the risk cannot be quantified here.
gacha.gg adds Water Damage Up at +33% and +50% in its rarity tiers, and Clarity and Serenity as a 35% part-break bonus during Water Resonance. Its Skill Boost values are placeholders, so the small numbers are not final.
Which weapon, armour and team does Game8 recommend?
All of this is one editorial source’s recommendation, published on 4 November 2026.
| Slot | Game8 recommendation |
|---|---|
| Weapon | Radiant Aqua Assault II or III, listed around AR 37 |
| Armour | Jyura, Tzitzi and Radiant Jyura pieces |
| Visage | Radiant Paolumu core plus the Ink of Guidance four-piece set, with Ink of Water listed as the alternative |
| Buddy | Hoppy |
| Sample party | Pepper, the Fated Adventurer (Water), Ouyang Varen and Madelyn |
The Heavy Bowgun itself is the top weapon in our four-list weapon consensus at 87.5, S tier, ahead of the Bow at 83.3. That context matters: an A-tier adventurer on the best weapon in the sample is a different proposition from an A-tier adventurer on the Lance. The weapon tier list has the full table.
The official site’s Heavy Bowgun overview describes the weapon’s ammo types and notes that Special Ammo is limited and replenishes over time or when shots land. That page is pre-launch material dated 9 February 2026, so it explains the weapon rather than the current build.
What do Pepper’s insight nodes cost?
Game8 and gacha.gg list the same ten nodes on the shared structure: six at 30 points, two at 10 and two at 5, for a published total of 210. The 185-point cap tension is explained on the Midori page; the practical advice is not to assume every node can be equipped at once.
| Node | Cost | Listed effect |
|---|---|---|
| Echoing Chimes | 30 | +36% Water damage for 10 seconds after Suppression |
| Fluffy Fuzzy Fantasy | 30 | +2 seconds of control |
| Featherglow Guard | 30 | +20% Water damage per stack, up to three, for 5 seconds |
| Fluffy Spin | 30 | +100% effect |
| Windborne Fluff | 30 | Effect listed by name only |
| Thousand Plumes | 30 | +3 ammo for 10 seconds |
| Power Charge | 10 | +5% ultimate charge |
| Hunting Spirit | 10 | +5% damage |
| Protection | 5 | −8% physical damage taken |
| Harmony | 5 | +8% resistance |
Echoing Chimes and Thousand Plumes are the two nodes that directly support the control loop. Featherglow Guard is the damage node. The rest are situational.
How should you use the consensus?
Pepper is a pick for players who want to control a fight from range, not a safe pick for a player who wants the strongest A-tier character. The 61.1 score says the published sample is split, and the split is about playstyle rather than a hidden number. If you already have Pepper, the Heavy Bowgun’s S-tier placement is a reason to build the weapon; if you are choosing whom to invest in, an A with a C in the sample is riskier than an A with no dissent.
The Madelyn build guide covers the other Water support in this batch, and Game8’s sample Pepper party includes Madelyn. The adventurer tier list shows the full spread and the scoring method.
