Is this Luka guide based on your own testing?
Luka is the ranged half of the launch damage conversation: a Thunder Bow adventurer who is the consensus number two behind Midori and the only Bow user in the S tier. The interesting part is not the ranking, though. It is the piercing damage table both written sources publish, which is easy to misread as “more hits is always better”.
What is Luka in Monster Hunter Outlanders?
Luka is an SSR Thunder Assault adventurer who uses a Bow. Game8 and gacha.gg agree on that identity, and they also agree on the kit’s central mechanic: Piercing Transformation, a charged shot that fires more arrows as the charge level rises.
Game8 rates Luka S as a main and B as a squadmate, which is the opposite direction from Haze. That is worth understanding before the grade table: the main-team column rewards direct damage, and Luka’s piercing shots are direct damage. As a squadmate, the kit offers less to a team than a buffer or a shield provider does.
How do the six published lists grade Luka?
Every grade below is rendered from the same tier data module that powers the adventurer tier list, so this table cannot drift from the consensus page.
| Source | Grade | Published / updated |
|---|---|---|
| Game8 (main team, squad B) | S | Updated 2026-11-03 |
| TopUpLive | SS | Published 2026-11-03 |
| LDShop | S | Published 2026-10-29; updated 2026-11-03 |
| gacha.gg | S | Updated 2026-10-29 |
| PlayerAuctions | A | Published 2026-10-30 |
| mobi.gg | S | Published 2026-10-28 |
Six-list consensus: 87.5 out of 100, bucket S, collected 2026-11-04.
Game8, LDShop, gacha.gg and mobi.gg place Luka in S, and TopUpLive pushes him to SS on its five-tier scale. PlayerAuctions is the only A, and its stated reason is positioning: a ranged Bow kit asks you to manage distance while the rest of the roster is more forgiving. Five top grades against one A produce 87.5, comfortably inside S.
How does Piercing Transformation actually scale?
This is the part most summaries skip. Both character pages publish the same numbers, which makes it the best-corroborated mechanic in this batch.
| Charge level | Hits | Damage of later hits |
|---|---|---|
| Lower charge | 3 hits | 3rd hit at roughly −10% |
| Higher charge | 4 hits | 3rd–4th hits at roughly −10% and −30% |
| Higher charge | 5 hits | 3rd–5th hits at roughly −10%, −30% and −50% |
| Highest charge | 6 hits | 3rd–6th hits at roughly −10%, −30%, −50% and −70% |
Read it as a trade: charging further adds arrows, but each extra arrow is weaker than the ones before it. Against a large monster with many hitzones lined up, the extra arrows still land; against a small or narrow target, the last arrows may miss entirely, and the charge time is wasted. Neither source publishes a hitzone multiplier or a monster-size table, so the honest conclusion is “charge as high as the target allows”, not “always full charge”.
The rest of the kit supports the same rhythm:
- Arc Slash costs 75 energy and always fires six hits, so it is the fixed-length alternative to a charged shot.
- Swift Volley costs 100 energy and adds 15% damage per consecutive shot, rewarding a sustained attack window.
- Thunderous Spin applies the Thunder coating (+25 or +50, depending on the version listed).
- Voltic Volley fires seven arrows, applies Thunderclap for 15 seconds, and adds two coating capacity.
- Swift Follow-Up can trigger once every 40 seconds.
gacha.gg adds two Thunder traits Game8 does not list: a Thunder Damage Up bonus of 10%, and a 35% part-break bonus during Thunder Resonance. It also lists Rapid Fire at four charge levels, which is not the same skill as Piercing Transformation; do not merge the two.
Which weapon, armour and team does Game8 recommend?
All of this is one editorial source’s recommendation, published on 4 November 2026. It is a starting point, not a measured best-in-slot list.
| Slot | Game8 recommendation |
|---|---|
| Weapon | Radiant Kadachi Strikebow III |
| Armour | Pukei Hood IV, Radiant Girros Mail III, Girros Vambraces IV, Radiant Kadachi Coil III, Ingot Greaves IV |
| Armour skills listed | Thunder Damage Up 7/7, Bow Skill Boost 4/4, Ballistics 1/1 |
| Visage | Radiant Tobi-Kadachi core plus the Ink of Thunder four-piece set |
| Buddy | Pipa |
| Sample party | Luka, the Fated Adventurer (Thunder), Luxheart and Haze |
Game8 also publishes an engraving priority for Luka: Core Passive, then Skill Boost, then Elemental Specialization, then Core Attribute, then Ultimate. That ordering is one page’s advice and is not corroborated by the second source.
What do Luka’s insight nodes cost?
Both character pages list ten nodes on the same cost structure as the rest of the roster: six at 30 points, two at 10, and two at 5, for a published total of 210. gacha.gg’s page header shows “0 / 185 points equipped” at Talent level 7, and our insight-points source records a 185-point cap. The likely explanation is that common insights become free at level 7, but that is our inference, not a statement either source makes.
| Node | Cost | Listed effect |
|---|---|---|
| Thunderous Pact | 30 | Affinity +35% |
| Final Arrow | 30 | Ultimate charge +60% |
| Meteor Lightning | 30 | +30% damage for 3 seconds |
| Electrical Sparks | 30 | +15% Thunder damage |
| Lightning Swift | 30 | Effect listed by name only |
| Lightning Epiphany | 30 | Effect listed by name only |
| Two 10-point nodes | 10 each | Cheap tier; effects not separately published in our notes |
| Two 5-point nodes | 5 each | Cheap tier; effects not separately published in our notes |
The priority is simpler than the table: affinity and ultimate charge first, then the Thunder damage nodes. Defensive and inexpensive nodes last, unless you are dying.
Is Luka free?
gacha.gg says Luka was available free from a launch event and is also in the Standard Contract pool. Game8 does not state an acquisition route, and no other source in the sample confirms the free event. Treat it as a single-source report, not a fact. The Standard Contract claim is at least consistent with the rest of gacha.gg’s page, but it is still one source.
How should you use the consensus?
Luka’s placement is the least controversial non-Midori result in the sample: five lists put him at or near the top, and the lone dissent is explained in public. That makes the 87.5 a reasonable tie-breaker if you are deciding between a ranged and a melee main. It does not tell you that the Bow is the right weapon for you, and it does not survive a balance patch by default.
If you are weighing the two S-tier damage dealers, the Midori build guide covers the melee alternative. The weapon tier list places the Bow in its own S tier, and the Haze build guide covers the support who appears in Game8’s sample Luka party. The adventurers index lists the rest of this batch.
