FAQ
Is Madelyn good in Monster Hunter Outlanders?
Why is Madelyn C on Game8 but S on other lists?
How does the spore cycle work?
Is Madelyn free?
Does SR rarity change how Madelyn scales?
Madelyn is the launch roster’s widest disagreement and the only SR adventurer in this batch. Game8 rates the Water Bow support C as a main and S as a squadmate, while three other lists put her in S. The consensus lands at 66.7, which is A tier, and the gap between that score and the S grades is the most useful thing this page can explain.
What is Madelyn in Monster Hunter Outlanders?
Madelyn is an SR Water Support adventurer who uses a Bow. The rarity matters: an SR unit is easier to obtain than an SSR but may have different duplicate income, and no source in our table publishes how that changes insight funding. Game8 and gacha.gg agree on the identity, the spore system and all ten insight nodes.
The kit is a damage-over-time support built around spores. It is not a burst healer and it is not a lead damage dealer, which is exactly why the rankings split.
How do the six published lists grade Madelyn?
Every grade below is rendered from the same tier data module that powers the adventurer tier list, including Game8’s separate main-team and squadmate columns.
| Source | Grade | Published / updated |
|---|---|---|
| Game8 (main team, squad S) | C | Updated 2026-11-03 |
| TopUpLive | S | Published 2026-11-03 |
| LDShop | S | Published 2026-10-29; updated 2026-11-03 |
| gacha.gg | S | Updated 2026-10-29 |
| PlayerAuctions | A | Published 2026-10-30 |
| mobi.gg | S | Published 2026-10-28 |
Six-list consensus: 66.7 out of 100, bucket A, collected 2026-11-04.
The one-sentence version: Madelyn is A, not S, because Game8’s main-team column rates her C and drags the average down; the other five lists rate her A or S. PlayerAuctions is the middle voice at A. If you read the grades as a statement about team value, Madelyn looks like a top pick; if you read them as a statement about leading a hunt, she does not.
How does the spore cycle actually work?
The cycle is a sequence, not a passive stat. Both character pages publish the same numbers.
- Build spores with Catalyst Burst. Each hit adds one spore, up to a cap of 10.
- Use a Spore Adhesion coating when you need a faster ramp. Level 1 adds one spore, level 2 adds two, and level 3 adds five.
- Watch the timer. The spore count resets after 22 seconds without the cycle continuing, so the build-up has to lead somewhere.
- Convert the count at 10 spores. Violet Plume Burst triggers at the cap, and Detonating Shot turns the count into damage, listed as +1% attack per spore for 22 seconds through Slide Shot.
- Repeat. The damage window is short enough that the next cycle starts almost immediately.
The squad side of the kit is separate. Violet Plume Charge gives the squad 4 ultimate energy, or 8 for Assault adventurers, plus 25% Water damage for 15 seconds, once every 50 seconds. Stellar Injection heals and damages at the same time. Those two effects are what a squad rankings list is rewarding when it places Madelyn in S.
gacha.gg adds traits Game8 does not list: Rapid Fire at four charge levels (1, 2, 3 and 3 arrows), Regenerative Factor, Botanist at 25%, and a 35% part-break bonus during Water Resonance. Several of its ultimate and skill values are placeholders, so do not treat the small numbers as final.
Which weapon, armour and team does Game8 recommend?
All of this is one editorial source’s recommendation, published on 4 November 2026. Game8 states that the recommendation is intended only until AR 37 (Rarity 8), which is an unusually explicit ceiling for a build page.
| Slot | Game8 recommendation |
|---|---|
| Weapon | Radiant Aqua Arrow II |
| Armour | Jyura, Tzitzi and Radiant Jyura pieces, with Water Damage Up 7/7 listed |
| Visage | Anjanath core plus the Ink of Grace four-piece set |
| Buddy | Ravinge, listed as +1.80% squad elemental damage |
| Sample role | Squadmate; Game8 advises against using Madelyn as the lead |
The build advice and the tier grade come from the same page and point in the same direction: a support slot. That consistency is why the C is worth taking seriously even though four other lists disagree.
What do Madelyn’s insight nodes cost?
Game8 and gacha.gg list the same ten nodes with the same costs: six at 30 points, two at 10 and two at 5, for a published total of 210. The familiar 185-point cap tension applies, and the Midori page explains the likely reading in full.
| Node | Cost | Listed effect |
|---|---|---|
| Potion Permeation | 30 | Extends the buff by 10 seconds |
| Precise Proportions | 30 | +2% per spore |
| Potion Catalyst | 30 | +100% effect |
| Probiotic Colony | 30 | Effect listed by name only |
| Potion Refinement | 30 | Effect listed by name only |
| Extreme Catalyst | 30 | Effect listed by name only |
| Power Charge | 10 | +5% ultimate charge |
| Hunting Spirit | 10 | +5% damage |
| Protection | 5 | −8% physical damage taken |
| Harmony | 5 | +8% resistance |
Because Madelyn is SR, the usual duplicate-funded budget does not translate directly. Insight points come from duplicate adventurers, and no source in our table states how SR duplicates differ from SSR. That number is unknown, not zero, so this page does not recommend a duplicate budget.
How should you use the consensus?
If you own Madelyn, run her as the squad support Game8 describes: build spores, detonate at the cap, and let Violet Plume Charge feed the team’s ultimate energy. If you are choosing a lead, the 66.7 score is not a reason to build around her, because the same sample that ranks her A also contains a C.
The Pepper build guide covers the other Water support in this batch, and Game8’s sample Pepper team includes Madelyn. The adventurer tier list explains how the six grades become a score, and the weapon tier list covers whether the Bow itself is worth building.
