Is this build guide based on your own testing?
Midori is the cleanest pick in the launch roster if you go by published rankings: six independent tier lists all place the Fire Long Sword adventurer in their top grade. This page is about what that placement is actually based on, what the kit does, and what it costs to build, so you can decide whether the consensus is worth your duplicates.
What is Midori in Monster Hunter Outlanders?
Midori is an SSR Fire Assault adventurer who fights with a Long Sword. Game8 and gacha.gg describe the same identity on their character pages, which is the strongest cross-check available for a launch-window character. The kit is built around a Spirit Gauge that fills as you land hits and a parry that turns a well-timed block into a counterattack.
Two sources describe the same core loop. Spirit Slash can be used three times and builds the gauge; Moment of Insight is an auto-parry that rewards timing rather than button mashing; Grand Entrance adds a small damage buff (5% per stack, up to three stacks, five seconds) when you enter a fight; and Curtain Call is the payoff for a full gauge. gacha.gg adds two Fire-specific traits Game8 does not list: a Fire Damage Up bonus listed per rarity tier, and a part-break bonus of 35% while Fire Resonance is active.
How do the six published lists grade Midori?
Every grade below is read from the tier data module that also powers the adventurer tier list, so this table cannot drift from the consensus page. Game8 publishes two columns; the grade shown is its main-team column, and the squadmate grade is noted beside it.
| Source | Grade | Published / updated |
|---|---|---|
| Game8 (main team, squad B) | S | Updated 2026-11-03 |
| TopUpLive | SSS | Published 2026-11-03 |
| LDShop | S | Published 2026-10-29; updated 2026-11-03 |
| gacha.gg | S | Updated 2026-10-29 |
| PlayerAuctions | S | Published 2026-10-30 |
| mobi.gg | S | Published 2026-10-28 |
Six-list consensus: 100.0 out of 100, bucket S, collected 2026-11-04.
Five lists put Midori in S and TopUpLive goes one step further with SSS on its own five-tier scale. The consensus score of 100.0 does not mean Midori is four times stronger than a B-tier adventurer; it means the published sample contains no dissent. A roster with no dissent is rare this early in a game’s life, and it is a statement about the six pages, not about measured performance.
What does Midori’s kit actually do?
The skill names are the same on both character pages; the explanations below are our plain-language summary of what those pages describe.
- Spirit Gauge and Spirit Slash. Spirit Slash is a three-use skill that builds the gauge. The gauge is the resource the rest of the kit spends.
- Moment of Insight. An auto-parry with three levels listed on Game8. A successful parry is the defensive core of the kit and the reason the Long Sword is described as a counter weapon rather than a dodge weapon.
- Grand Entrance. Entering a fight grants a small damage buff that stacks up to three times and lasts five seconds per application. It rewards opening a hunt with a committed attack rather than a slow approach.
- Curtain Call. The gauge-spending finisher. Game8 lists it as the payoff skill; no source publishes a damage number for it.
- Passive and utility traits. Prospector’s Eye gives a 50% chance of two extra ore, Nightfall Wanderer reduces stamina use by 5% at night, and Instant Follow-Up can trigger once every 40 seconds. These are conveniences, not damage sources.
Two traps to avoid. First, none of these descriptions includes a motion value, a hitzone multiplier or a DPS figure, because no source in our table publishes one. Second, gacha.gg’s recommended-build block for Midori lists bow jewels on a Long Sword character, which is an assembly error; we do not repeat its equipment advice.
Which weapon, armour and team does Game8 recommend?
All of this is one editorial source’s recommendation, published on 5 November 2026. Treat it as a starting point for your own testing, not as a tier of its own.
| Slot | Game8 recommendation |
|---|---|
| Weapon | Wyvern Blade “Blood” III |
| Armour | Rathalos Helm III, Rathalos Mail III, Anja Vambraces III, Anja Coil III, Anja Greaves III |
| Visage | Radiant Rathian core plus the Ink of Flames four-piece set |
| Buddy | Kojiro, listed as a 30% Fire buff for 10 seconds |
| Sample party | Midori, Raya, Ryunosuke and Luxheart |
The armour mix is a Fire attack set with Rathalos pieces; the visage and buddy choices double down on Fire. If you do not own the exact pieces, the same page’s logic still applies: stack Fire damage and skill damage before defensive stats, because the kit’s survival tool is a parry rather than armour. That is our reading of the recommendation, not a second source.
What do Midori’s insight nodes cost?
Game8 lists ten nodes and gacha.gg lists the same ten with the same costs, which makes this one of the better-corroborated data points on the page. Six nodes cost 30 points, two cost 10, and two cost 5, for a published total of 210.
| Node | Cost | Listed effect |
|---|---|---|
| Maple Season Melody | 30 | +9% skill damage for 30 seconds, up to three stacks |
| Maple Season Echo | 30 | Skill 3 damage +34% |
| Momentary Resonance | 30 | Skill-effect node, name only on both sources |
| Majestic Fireworks | 30 | +18% Fire skill damage for 30 seconds |
| Endless Tones | 30 | Effect triggers once per 45 seconds |
| Shadow Legion | 30 | +40% skill damage, +20% part break |
| Power Charge | 10 | +5% ultimate charge |
| Hunting Spirit | 10 | +5% damage |
| Protection | 5 | −8% physical damage taken |
| Harmony | 5 | +8% resistance |
The gap worth knowing about: ten nodes total 210 points, but gacha.gg’s page header shows “0 / 185 points equipped” at Talent level 7, and our insight-points source records a maximum of 185 points per adventurer. One reading is that reaching Talent level 7 makes the common (blue) insights free, so the equipped total counts only the expensive nodes. That is our inference, not a statement either source makes. The practical takeaway is safer than the theory: plan for the three skill-damage nodes and Shadow Legion first, and do not assume every node can be equipped at once.
Is Midori a limited adventurer?
gacha.gg says yes, and is the only source in our table that does. It names a limited banner called “Autumn Refrain” running from 29 October to 26 November 2026. No other tier list or character page we read repeats that date, and we have not seen an official banner schedule, so the honest label is single-source report, unconfirmed. If the date matters to your spending, check the in-game banner rather than this page.
How should you use the consensus?
A 100.0 score is a strong signal that the published sample agrees, and agreement this early usually reflects a kit that is easy to evaluate: direct damage, a parry, and no resource puzzle. It is not a promise about the next patch. Game8’s own build page was updated on 5 November 2026, five days after launch, and the 2 November patch changed experience systems without publishing a version number. Any of that can move a ranking.
If you are choosing between the two top-tier damage dealers, the Luka build guide covers the ranged Thunder alternative, and the weapon tier list covers whether the Long Sword itself is a good investment. The adventurers index lists every character page in this batch.
